A rgentina celebrates 200 years of independence from Spain today, Saturday, July 9, 2016 — and in commemoration of this special day, events have been occurring in the country since the beginning of this year.
Argentina Celebrates 200 Years of Independence
In the District of Columbia in the United States, the Embassy of Argentina and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will hold a concert by the Pan American Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sergio Buslje. The program will include tango music from different periods — from the most traditional one to the most contemporary. The guest players will be Rodolfo Zanetti at the bandoneón and Diana LeGrand at the violin.
Best of all, there is no admission charge, as the concert is free; and seats are available to all on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Photographs of Government Buildings and Monuments
In honor of this special day, I thought I would commemorate it with some photographs I took years ago when I visited Argentina. I literally have hundreds of photographs from such places as Buenos Aires and Iguazu Falls; but I thought I would share the following few photographs for this article.
I intend to post more photographs in future articles — and even though they are years old, many of them are timeless and not “expired.”
Summary
When I visited Argentina years ago, I truly enjoyed virtually every aspect of my visit — and dining on the best steaks I have ever eaten certainly did not hurt. If the opportunity arose, I would definitely return.
Congratulations to Argentina for celebrating 200 years of independence as a country; and may it celebrate many more centuries of autonomy.
