A Boeing 737-800 airplane which operated as FlyDubai flight 981 and originated in Dubai has crashed in Rostov-on-Don in southern Russia due to missing the runway upon attempting to land at the airport with at least 55 passengers and six members of the flight crew aboard the aircraft — none of whom survived, according to multiple sources and repots unconfirmed at this time.
It is unclear at this time as to the cause of the crash, which resulted in other flights being delayed or diverted from the airport and approximately 100 rescue workers at the site of the crash.
The resulting fire has already been extinguished, according to multiple sources.
I intend to post further information pertaining to this story; but as of the time this article was posted, no official notice was yet posted at the official Internet web site of FlyDubai, which operates a fleet of greater than 45 brand new Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft and calls itself the “Middle East’s fastest growing airline” with flights to greater than 90 destinations in Africa, Central Asia, Europe, the Indian Subcontinent, and the Middle East.
In the meantime, my thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of the occupants of the aircraft.
