A fter just having arrived in Riga, I checked into the hotel property at which I am staying for one night; and the room has separated twin beds whose covers match the curtains — the design of which consists of antique cars.
Matching Curtains and Bed Covers — of Antique Cars
I have never seen that before — and I have stayed in many hotel rooms around the world in my life. That is rather hokey, if you ask me…
…although I must say that the Hotel Viktorija in Riga has some character to it. The hotel looks like it might have been a more premium destination in its glory days — which have been long gone as indicated by the creaky floors and the tattered carpet in parts of the hallways; amongst other things — but it has high ceilings. I would say that they are ten feet above the floor. It has two older staircases — like the ones you would find in a fancy older hotel.
It also has an old-fashioned key — but you must use it to lock the door to the room from the inside as well as from the outside. This design would never pass any modern day fire code because it is now considered unsafe.
I was surprised to find that amenities include wrapped slippers such as those found in more upscale hotels; a sewing kit; wipes to shine shoes; and shower caps. Wi-Fi access to the Internet is surprisingly fast. Breakfast is even included.
I chose this hotel property because I paid nothing for it. I had some Orbucks lying around that I did not even know I had; so I used fewer than $22.00 worth of Orbucks to reserve the room.
Summary
I intend to have a full report of this hotel property at a later date — but let us just say that it does not compare to the suite in which I stayed when I was in Tallinn…
