I was unexpectedly treated to an aerial view of Miami in Florida moments after the airplane on which I was a passenger departed from Miami International Airport, as I had no idea which way the airplane would initially be going — and I sat by a window seat.

Looking east northeast is Florida State Highway 836, which becomes Interstate 395 as it crosses over Interstate 95. The waterway is the Miami River. Miami Beach can be seen by the Atlantic Ocean off in the distance.

Trivia time: Miami is the second most populous city in the state of Florida, as the crown of the most populous city in Florida goes to Jacksonville. As the county seat of Miami-Dade County, Miami is home to the third-largest skyline in the United States with greater than 300 high-rise buildings — 70 of which exceed 490 feet in height.
