Aeropuerto Internacional de Tulum: Photographs of the New Airport

This airport is a nice alternative to the one which serves Cancún — but...

Aeropuerto Internacional de Tulum is also known as Tulum Airport or Tulum International Airport; but its official name is Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport. This article contains photographs of the new airport, which was officially inaugurated on Friday, December 1, 2023.

The runways and taxiways were still almost pristine upon landing. No significant skid marks or oil stains marred the concrete as of yet…

…and evidence of construction still remains, as nature has yet to reclaim the areas of the airport that will not be used.

Ten airlines currently serve Tulum International Airport at the time this article was written.

For some reason, a portable stairway was used for passengers to leave the airplane despite several gates being available.

Inside of the terminal — which thankfully was air conditioned, as the weather outside was hot and quite humid — a sign which hangs from the ceiling welcomes visitors to Tulum.

After being processed through customs — which was rather easy and did not take too much time — passengers have a choice of business to patronize.

Some rental car companies — such as Hertz — have an established storefront in the airport. Other rental car companies — such as Avis — do not as of yet and use temporary space…

…and those temporary spaces were still being prepared for their tenants.

The Food Court was not completed as of yet…

…but some places were open for business for people who were hungry or thirsty.

The architecture near the exit of the terminal is nicely designed with a lot of ambient natural light from all of the windows.

The rental car area is located outside; but all of the rental vehicles are covered. Some parking spots are equipped with charging stations for electric vehicles.

Secure Side of the Airport

The gates on the secure side of the airport evoke a tropical Mexican theme.

Some options for dining and purchasing sundries are currently available across from the gates. Coming soon will be more dining options — such as Firehouse Subs and Carl’s Jr.

Final Boarding Call

Although not nearly as bad as Cancún International Airport, touts will aggressively try to sell you something.

Driving to and from the airport is easier than to and from Cancún International Airport — although one must drive ten kilometers just to leave the airport; so do not expect to arrive at your destination quickly.
