Cows in the Galápagos Islands may not exactly be an unusual sight, as they are used for food for human beings — but I was not expecting to see them there, either.

As we were being transported along the long private driveway of Royal Palm Galapagos, Curio Collection Hotel by Hilton prior to checking in, dairy cows and bulls were lounging in the natural grasses of the property. They seemed to be content.

Trivia time: Cows — as well as goats, dogs, pigs, and donkeys — are not indigenous to the Galápagos Islands, as they were introduced by human beings in 1832 for the purpose of being used as a source of food.
