There is still 45 days until the end of 2017 — but the international airport which serves the greater Atlanta metropolitan area has already set another record for all airports in the United States.
Atlanta Airport Again Sets United States Record — and Not a Flattering One
If you guessed that a record number of passengers passed through the airport — such as on Sunday, December 27, 2015, when passenger number 100 million passed through the airport and was awarded gifts — you would be incorrect. Rather, representatives of the Transportation Security Administration claim that agents have confiscated 211 guns at the airport security checkpoint, which surpasses the record set in Atlanta last year of 198 guns.
“Hartsfield-Jackson is the world’s busiest airport but doesn’t have the most passenger volume through security checkpoints among U.S. airports because most ATL passengers are connecting”, according to this article written by by Kelly Yamanouchi of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Still, it often ‘leads the nation’ in guns caught at security checkpoints, according to TSA figures.”
Summary
Apparently people cannot seem to remember to keep guns and other weapons out of their belongings when traveling as passengers on airplanes — or perhaps some of them are intentionally attempting to carry their weapons with them when they travel…
…or does this latest news mean that the effectiveness rate of the Transportation Security Administration is actually improving?
