The first reaction many people have to seeing a bee buzzing around them is to be startled and perhaps run away for a fear of being stung — especially if they are allergic to the venom from such a sting — but to watch a bee pollinating flowers is a sight to see.

Honeybees are responsible for approximately 80 percent of pollination worldwide. They are a key part of the ecosystem which we currently enjoy — and need to survive…
…but the American bumblebee has declined in population by as much as 89 percent due to myriad factors; and is considered close enough to extinction that a petition was posted by the Fish and Wildlife Service of the United States on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 to list the insect as an endangered species in order to protect it.

My experience is that bees will leave me alone if I leave them alone. They never seem to mind my watching them work — even up close. I have never been stung by a bee.
Regardless of whether the possible extinction of bees is completely true or over exaggerated hype, I sincerely hope that the bee population worldwide will not only survive — but thrive as well.
