The reason as to why I chose Blackbird Bar & Grill in Brisbane was because it was one of the only restaurants in Brisbane which offered kangaroo on the menu, on which I had dined only a couple of days earlier at Eastbank Café • Bar • Pizzeria in Sydney — and I enjoyed it so much that I wanted it again.
Blackbird Bar & Grill in Brisbane. Restaurant Review.
To get to the entrance of the restaurant, one must go up one floor by using either a flight of stairs or an elevator to get to the reception desk.
We were immediately seated at a table in a cozy little corner of the restaurant by a wall of windows, where we were treated to a view of Story Bridge crossing the Brisbane River. Our table was off to the left outside of the photograph.
Nighttime had not yet arrived on that dreary rainy day in Brisbane.
Patrons can see the chefs through an opening in the wall on the left in the photograph.
The Paroo Kangaroo was comprised of both a grilled loin and a braised tail pie; and it was served with crushed root vegetables and riberries. The meat was delicious and cooked well; but it was just short of the aforementioned kangaroo on which I dined in Sydney. $48.00
The Infinity Blue Barramundi was accompanied by buttered leeks and yellow curried lentil dressing. $48.00
As no side dish was included with the main courses, the Shoestring Fries were ordered and served with saltbush salt and lemon myrtle aioli. They were close to perfection. I truly enjoyed them. $15.00
For dessert, we decided on the Cherry Ripe Parfait, which was a dark chocolate, cherry, and coconut parfait with coconut sorbet and cherry compôte. The name of this dessert is derived from the popular candy bar in Australia. $18.00
The view of Story Bridge over the Brisbane River was just as picturesque at night as it was during the day. What a great end to the meal.
Final Boarding Call
I did not really do much research in finding a restaurant that evening. I knew nothing about Blackbird Bar & Grill. It just sounded like a decent place to eat dinner that offered kangaroo on the menu.
It was much, much more than a decent place to eat dinner. I highly recommend dining at Blackbird Bar & Grill. The total cost was $91.01 in United States dollars, which was a bit on the expensive side for two meals — but it was an upscale restaurant; and it was well worth it. The food was quite fresh, delicious, and satisfying. The service was excellent. The views are great as well.
