Conjuring up creative ways to spice up food while traveling can be challenging — especially when dealing with numerous anomalies that can affect your itinerary and prevent you from enjoying a proper meal. How creative can you get with food when you are at an airport or aboard an airplane as a passenger?
Creative Ways to Spice Up Food While Traveling?
A now-famous “recipe” of sorts had been posted in numerous different discussions on FlyerTalk for years about how to create a mock “key lime pie” — and one variation of that recipe calls for ingredients that are available aboard the airplane: a slice of lime, coffee creamer, and Biscoff cookies, which are available with several different airlines. Pour some of the creamer onto the cookie, squeeze some lime juice on it, and you have that mock “key lime pie” — although you can skip the coffee creamer altogether if you so choose.
Another idea is to purchase ordinary hard-boiled eggs at the airport and quickly create a version of “deviled eggs” by removing the yolks from the whites of the eggs and mixing them with one small packet of pickle relish, half of a packet of mustard, and half of a packet of mayonnaise. Packets of condiments can usually be obtained at no cost from vendors at the airport where you purchase food. Spoon the contents back into the eggs and sprinkle salt and pepper to taste. Add half of a packet of hot sauce for some added zing to the eggs.
Even something as simple as taking a packet of mustard and drizzling the contents on packaged pretzels could help to elevate your “dining experience” aboard an airplane.
Final Boarding Call
In an age where the food options for passengers assigned to seats in the economy class cabin are non-existent on domestic flights within the United States — and not always much better on international flights, depending on the airline — you may have found that you need to grab your food on the go but are tired of repeatedly eating the same bland food.
To get your creativity with food going, here are some ideas about how typical fast food items can be converted to look like fancy hors d’oeuvres — even though no new recipes have been added to that Internet web site since Thursday, February 16, 2012…

I do enjoy a slice of lime in my orange juice or soda; but alas, I am not all that creative when it comes to food while aboard an airplane or at an airport — which means that this is where you come in: what ideas do you have to be creative with food or beverages while at an airport or aboard an airplane?
