Delta Air Lines Extends Ability to Rebook Up to 2 Years on Travel Impacted by 2019 Novel Coronavirus

If your flight which was supposed to be operated by Delta Air Lines was impacted by the 2019 Novel Coronavirus, you now have the opportunity for the flight credit of your ticket to be extended for redemption through Tuesday, May 31, 2022 if it is eligible — which is up to a full two years.

“Whether customers have been affected by recent schedule adjustments or want additional reassurance about upcoming travel, we’re now extending the ability to plan, re-book and travel with us for up to two years — giving Delta customers some extra breathing room”, according to this article from Delta News Hub. “Taking care of customers is at the center of everything we do. In these times of rapid change, we know our customers want the value of their tickets to be secure and redeemable for a longer period.”

Tickets normally expire one year after purchase, but Delta Air Lines is providing waived change fees and greater flexibility to travel through Tuesday, May 31, 2022, for customers who have:

  • Upcoming travel already booked in April or May 2020 as of Friday, April 3, 2020
  • Existing eCredits or canceled travel from flights in March, April or May 2020

New tickets purchased between Sunday, March 1, 2020 and Sunday, May 31, 2020 may still be changed without a change fee for up to a year from the date of purchase.

Other terms and conditions apply to this offer.

According to the aforementioned article, “Amid the ongoing challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, Delta is committing the utmost care and attention to evaluating our travel waiver policies and continuing to make it even easier for customers to cancel, change or rebook travel.” I believe that. Delta Air Lines seems to be offering a more generous change and cancellation policy overall than its competitors — and I know first hand that the employees of Delta Air Lines are happy to work with customers on a case-by-case basis to figure out the best way to address their concerns, as they have done so with me in the past on multiple locations.
