Each Island Has Its Own Cloud in Fiji. Sunday Morning Photograph.

At least the islands are not being rained on by those clouds.

While on a boat heading northwest from Denerau Island near Nadi out to the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji for a snorkeling expedition, I noticed that each island has its own cloud and thought that was pretty cool.

Speaking of pretty cool, temperature does play a role in why clouds form over islands — but do not be concerned, as the islands are not sad as portrayed by cartoon characters that have clouds over their heads.

Trivia time: An oversimplified reason islands have their own clouds is due to a difference in temperature between land and water. This article from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the Department of Commerce of the United States offers a more detailed explanation of how clouds are formed.
