The Digital Key technology was first introduced by Hilton back on Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Since then, Digital Key has undergone significant updates and currently works with many hotel and resort properties within the Hilton brand portfolio. Any smartphone becomes a room key with Digital Key, which is available through the Hilton Honors mobile software application program. You can bypass the front desk and head straight to your room, which you can unlock by simply using your Digital Key.
“With Digital Key, our HHonors members can access not only their hotel room via their smartphone, but other areas of the hotel that require a key for guest access, such as the fitness center, pool or even parking garage”, Dana Shefsky said during this interview with me in September of 2015 when she was the director of digital product innovation at Hilton Worldwide and Hilton Honors was still called Hilton HHonors. “Using Digital Key does not affect an HHonors member’s chances of receiving a space available upgrade. Guests who use our digital check-in on the day before or day of arrival can choose a room based on the room type they booked. Should an upgrade become available, the hotel will move the guest into the new, upgraded room. Hotels do their best to upgrade guests as often as possible. Availability is dynamic and always changing, so hotels take this fluidity into account when determining if they are able to offer a complimentary room upgrade.”
Once again, the promotion is so incredibly simple — when being told “no” repeatedly is a good thing — as:
- No minimum stays are required to start earning
- No minimum number of nights are required in your stay
- No restrictions by nights, cities or brands will be implemented
- No limits are imposed as to how many Hilton Honors points you can earn during the promotion period

You must be a member of the Hilton Honors frequent guest loyalty program to participate in this promotion; and you must register for this promotion prior to your first stay.
Once you have registered for this promotion, you will receive bonus Hilton Honors points for your stay during the promotion period — even if you are checking in to a hotel or resort property before Monday, January 1, 2024 if the stay is completed on or after Monday, January 1, 2024, and prior to or on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
Bonus Hilton Honors points earned on base points do not count toward qualification of elite tier status.
A stay is defined as the total number of consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, whether or not — and regardless of the number of times — a guest checks out and checks back in again.
In-room Internet access, fitness center access, health club access, and bottled water benefits may not be complimentary at properties with a resort charge. Space-available upgrades are only available at select brands. Elite status benefits are subject to availability and vary by brand. Please allow up to eight weeks from completion of your stay for points to appear in your Hilton Honors membership account.
Keep in mind of the restrictions on the amount of base points which can be earned on a single stay at certain brands. Hilton Honors membership, earning of Points & Miles when booking direct and redemption of points are subject to Hilton Honors Terms and Conditions.
Not all room rates are eligible for this promotion — including but not necessarily limited to:

- Complimentary or barter rooms

- “Opaque” channel bookings where the brand may or may not be known at the time of purchase

Hilton has been doing a good job in continuing to offer popular promotions of awarding bonus Hilton Honors points per stay with few restrictions.
