El Al Israel Airlines and Delta Air Lines implement a codeshare agreement long term effective as of yesterday, Monday, December 18, 2023 for travel beginning on Monday, January 1, 2024. The codeshare agreement is expected to improve connection opportunities for customers who travel between North America and Tel Aviv.
El Al Israel Airlines and Delta Air Lines Implement Codeshare Agreement Long Term
Members of the Matmid membership program of El Al Israel Airlines and the SkyMiles membership program of Delta Air Lines will be able to earn and redeem miles on the services of both airlines. In addition, both airlines will offer such reciprocal benefits as preferred seat access, priority check-in and boarding, additional baggage allowance, and lounge access where applicable to members of their frequent flier programs who have earned top tier elite status effective as of Monday, January 15, 2024.
“Delta customers flying from North America will be able to fly on EL AL’s nonstop services from New York-JFK, New York-Newark, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale to Tel Aviv”, according to this article from Delta News Hub. “Meanwhile, EL AL’s code will be added to Delta’s non-stop Tel Aviv flights (once restored), as well as up to 280 same-day connections via Delta’s U.S. gateways in New York-JFK, Boston, and Los Angeles to destinations including Atlanta, Washington DC, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Seattle, Dallas, and Toronto.”
The strategic partnership between El Al Israel Airlines and Delta Air Lines was officially announced on Thursday, June 29, 2023. The long-term codeshare agreement is the latest result of the strategic partnership.
Final Boarding Call
Because of the the ongoing war in Israel, Delta Air Lines has issued a travel alert for Tel Aviv for Saturday, October 7, 2023 through Thursday, September 26, 2024; and Thursday, September 26, 2024 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin. Meanwhile, flight operations are as close to normal as possible with El Al Israel Airlines, which means that travelers between North America and Israel who are members of both frequent flier programs have more options to do so.
One reader of The Gate With Brian Cohen contacted me and wrote that “The long awaited codeshare is live. This is particularly helpful now that Delta isn’t flying to Israel until March at the earliest.”
