Free parking for vehicles is available at Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park — and in front of the River’s Edge Pavilion building near the Council Bluffs approach to the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge is a giant “Looking Up” humanoid sculpture in Iowa at a height of 33 feet.
Giant “Looking Up” Humanoid Sculpture in Iowa. Sunday Morning Photograph.

Appearing as though it is comprised of crumpled tin foil and aluminum roasting pans, Looking Up was created by Tom Friedman and unveiled in May of 2019 — except that that original statue was temporary and was removed in December of 2020, as it was sold to a private collector.

A newer version of the sculpture was permanently installed in 2021. An identical twin sculpture is located in Austin in Texas.

No admission is charged to view the sculpture, which is never closed to visitors. No facilities are available at the sculpture itself.
Walking across the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge — along with viewing this sculpture — is one of several interesting things to do in the greater Omaha metropolitan area.
