Guest of the Day: Do Hotels Still Do This?

When she would travel on the corporate dime to clients who are located in small towns or small cities, she would stay overnight in a local hotel property whenever necessary; and at two of those hotel properties over the years, her name would appear on the exterior sign along with the honor of being the guest of the day.

Guest of the Day: Do Hotels Still Do This?

A woman whom I know casually related this story earlier today and talked about how her room was upgraded to an ersatz suite — and she also was given a photograph of the exterior sign with her name on it — which had me wondering: does the management of hotel properties still select a customer and honor him or her as the guest of the day?

Honoring a customer as guest of the day was a practice which had that customer feel special by being recognized. In the aforementioned two cases, the name of the guest was randomly drawn by members of the staff of the hotel property; but I do wonder if a guest at other hotel properties might have been purposely specifically chosen from a number of factors which had already been predetermined.

Summary

The last time I was honored as guest of the day at a particular hotel property was at the Hilton Pyramids Golf Resort — which is located in 6th of October City approximately ten miles away from the famed Pyramids of Giza and the legendary Great Sphinx of Egypt — and the reason was simply that I drove a car in Egypt. Even though this stay was back in 2015, I yet to write an article pertaining to my experience there; but I still intend to do so — but I digress.

Have you ever been honored as guest of the day at a particular hotel or resort property — and if so, what was your experience? Also, are there still individual hotel properties at which management still honors a specific customer as the guest of the day?

  1. I see it’s now a bit old, but I enjoyed your story you linked to about driving in Egypt. I was in Egypt a few months before you and my father and I had a good laugh about the fact they were renting cars at the airport and what it would be like if a tourist rented one and had no idea what they were getting into. Now I know…

  2. I was the guest of the day at a Courtyard by Marriott hotel. The prize: various bagged snacks and bottle water.

  3. whom!

“A woman who~~M~~ I know casually related this story earlier today and talked about how her room was upgraded to an ersatz suite —…”

    1. Ugh.

You know I originally had whom in there, rmh?

I guess I was overthinking it, as for some reason it did not sound right — so I changed it.

I will change it back. Thank you.

  4. Happened to me few weeks ago at Radisson Blu in Limerick – got ersatz suite. But I was not traveling on company dime and I’m only a Silver elite.
