Visiting the Highlands region in Scotland without seeing Highland cattle in Scotland is practically blasphemous. How could anyone resist seeing this rustic cattle with its thick wavy hairy coat — which is especially shaggy on its head — and long curvy horns on both bulls and cows.

The distinctive appearance of Highland cattle may vary in colours such as yellow, brindle, dun, white, and the classic red…
…but black is considered the original colour of Highland cattle — and the photograph below seems to depict one member of the black Highland cattle as saying “So, there! Nyah!!!” to anyone that has a beef with that bit of information.
Final Boarding Call
A group of Highland cattle is known as a fold instead of a herd because the cattle were kept in open shelters that were constructed of stone called folds to protect them from the cold weather during winter nights — but they are quite impervious to the frigid winter weather anyway.
