T he meteorological office in Iceland downgraded the risk level for the aviation industry from red back to orange — the second-highest level — yesterday, indicating that there was no sign of an imminent eruption at the Bardarbunga volcano.
The scientists there reportedly said that their announcement this past Saturday that the volcano had experienced a subglacial eruption was incorrect, as no eruption had occurred after all, according to this article written by By Robert Robertsson of Reuters.
The risk level for the aviation industry was raised to orange only last week.
Seismic activity still continues, however. There were reportedly two earthquakes which occurred overnight near the Bardarbunga volcano. An eruption is still not out of the question despite the downgrade…
…which is more than I can say for some travelers overcome with self-importance — known to ask the infamous question of “do you know who I am?” — who tend to erupt significantly and more reliably whenever they are downgraded…
