“Gold for crankychick and I” is what FlyerTalk member wijomas posted in the Qantas | Frequent Flyer forum on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 1:26 in the morning Eastern Standard Time — and that became the last time he posted on FlyerTalk.
In Memoriam: wijomas
At the age of 31, wijomas — whose real name is Will — passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2020; and this discussion on FlyerTalk is dedicated to his memory.
I first met Will back on the evening of Friday, April 23, 2010 in Marina Del Rey in California at a party for frequent fliers which we both attended; but I had communicated with him on a semi-regular basis on FlyerTalk before and after that event — but I sadly had not personally heard from him in recent years.
Although he could initially be seemingly introverted — and, at times, proudly quirky — Will was the life of every party he attended. He was popular enough that he even enjoyed this gathering of FlyerTalk members in his honor in San Diego back on Sunday, January 24, 2010 because he celebrated birthday number 21 on Friday, January 8, 2010.
Will even had a hand in the organization of events — such as this one in his home country of New Zealand back in May of 2015.
Having first joined FlyerTalk as a member on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, wijomas posted content a total of 5,233 times and participated in a variety of forums. His last activity on FlyerTalk was on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 3:41 in the morning Eastern Standard Time.
Summary
The loss of a FlyerTalk member is always sad for me. I really dislike having to mourn yet another fellow frequent flier — especially one who I have met and with whom I have communicated.
Any other information pertaining to wijomas — such as funeral services or an Internet web site pertaining to remembering details about his life — had been unavailable to me at the time this article was written. I am still looking to see if I have a photograph of him; but I have been unsuccessful at this point. I intend to edit and amend this article if any new information becomes available so that he may be properly remembered with a more fitting tribute.
In the meantime, my thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of wijomas — as well as to his wife crankychick.
May Will rest in peace…
