I observed kayaks in Antarctica from the balcony of our stateroom aboard the Swan Hellenic SH Minerva ship not long after awakening, as members of the crew were preparing them for those guests who chose to watch whales in Charlotte Bay later that day from kayaks.

The way the kayaks were arranged may have been random — or are likely to be part of a procedure — to the members of the crew…
…but to me, the way they were arranged were as though they were a work of art.
Off in the distance at the top of the photograph above is some of the land and ice of Antarctica at Charlotte Bay.

Trivia time: Charlotte Bay — which is located on the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula and is fed by several glaciers — was named after Charlotte Dumeiz, who was the fiancée of Georges Lecointe, who was second in command during the Belgian Antarctic Expedition from 1897 through 1899. Charlotte Bay was discovered by Adrien de Gerlache.
