A fter some much needed sleep, I woke up in Room 1 of the Katse Lodge in Lesotho in the morning to look outside my window — and this is what I saw:
It reminded me of when I arrived by train at night in Montreux, Switzerland while I was attending college and did not have a hotel room reservation; so I wandered into this tired old hotel with an old-style lift where I paid a low room rate on the spot and slept in an unremarkable room — only to wake up in the morning to spectacular views of Lac Léman or Lac de Genève. Yes, I did attend the Montreux Jazz Festival. It was also the place where an outdoor café with a menu in French offered burger à cheval or horse burgers; so I ordered the pizza burger — only to realize that it was a horse burger with pizza sauce on it.
I did not particularly care for the horse burger with pizza sauce — but I digress.
Once I was outside as quickly as possible, the crisp cool morning air — quiet and still, save for the occasional chirping of birds — greeted me with what I thought was incredible scenery…
…but you judge for yourself.
I could not stop taking photographs, which unfortunately do not do justice to what I saw with my own eyes. The clouds and the sun kept changing the scenery — with sunbeams raining down on the mountains; to the clouds creating new formations using the blue sky as a palette.
More photographs are to come in a future article — as well as my morning experience at Katse Lodge, which included breakfast; as well as contact information and its address — but please allow me to say that despite my first impressions of the room and the experience of not being able to check in, Katse Lodge should be on your list as a place to stay if you plan on visiting Lesotho.
