These photographs of Matthew Cohen in Australia and New Zealand are primarily a celebration of his birthday — which is during the winter season — as well as checking several of the latest accomplishments off of his list of travel items.

We were in Australia and New Zealand at this time last year. This was his first time in Australia — so as with me, now the only continent to which he has not yet been is Antarctica. We both intend to complete that goal one day.
He also had the distinction of driving on the left side of the road — legally, anyway — for the first time in his life. Fortunately, Lassiter Highway — which is also Highway 4 — has very little traffic on it; so driving on the opposite side of the road as compared to what he is used to doing was fairly easy. I told him that if he feels homesick while he is driving, just take a glance in the rear view mirror; and everything will appear to be normal again.
He has never seen crocodiles in the wild — but he sure did on this trip. We also went snorkeling out on the Great Barrier Reef off of the coast of Cairns — as shown in the featured photograph at the top of this article — which was another first for him. We both very highly recommend Seastar Cruises, as we had a great time. An article about this experience has yet to be written.
New Zealand was another country to which he had never been. In addition to Lake Wakatipu and Tongariro National Park, he also experienced Milford Sound and many other points of interest on both the North Island and the South Island of the country…
…including the Waitomo Caves on the Spellbound Explorer tour, which we both very highly recommend. It was worth every penny. An article about this experience has yet to be written as well.
Final Boarding Call
One final note: through the miracle of travel, Matthew was able to celebrate his birthday in the summer season for the first time in his life instead of the winter season. How cool is that?!?
