Military Attack on Venezuela by the United States Disrupts Air Travel: January 2026 Travel Alert
Nicolás Maduro — who is the current president of Venezuela — and his wife were captured by the Delta Force special elite forces unit of the United States Army and flown out of Venezuela during an operation after a “large scale strike” was conducted on Venezuela by the United States. Maduro has been indicted in New York on drug charges and weapons charges.
A national emergency has been declared in Venezuela. Concrete blocks block the highway leading from Simón Bolívar International Airport to Caracas in Maiquetía.
Donald Trump — who is the current president of the United States — said during a press conference earlier today that the United States will “run” Venezuela on a temporary basis “until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition.”
The capture of Maduro occurred exactly 36 years after Manuel Noriega — who was the military leader of Panama — was detained as a prisoner of war and taken to the United States.
The entire press conference by Donald Trump can be seen in this video from the Associated Press.
