Millaa Millaa Falls is considered to be the southern gateway to the Atherton Tableland in the state of Queensland in Australia — as well as part of the Waterfalls Capital of North Queensland and Heartland of World Heritage. Millaa Millaa Lookout is located 10.1 kilometers away from the waterfall.
Millaa Millaa Lookout
I arrived at Millaa Millaa Lookout on a less than ideal day in terms of weather.
Fog and low clouds enshrouded much of the landscape of rolling green hills and extinct volcano cones, which unfortunately resulted in a poor opportunity for enjoying the views.
I headed on to Millaa Millaa Falls, which is approximately ten minutes away by car.
Millaa Millaa Falls
Millaa Millaa Falls — along with several connecting falls — is approximately 60 feet tall and is part of what is known as the Falls Circuit, which is a significant place within the Mamu traditional estate. Many people visit the waterfall to spend the day swimming, enjoying picnics, and hiking on trails; while others arrive via tour buses.
One aging plaque welcomes visitors with “Be safe while you are on Mamu country — look after this Country and our Ancestors will look after you” and asks to “visit respectfully, have proper regard and impact on Country in responsible ways.”
Final Boarding Call
I spent approximately ten minutes at Millaa Millaa Lookout and 25 minutes at Millaa Millaa Falls before heading on to other waterfalls that are part of the Falls Circuit. Both are worth visiting — especially when the weather is better for enjoying them.

The lookout and the waterfall are both open to visitors 24 hours per day and never close. Free parking is available nearby. Toilets are available at Millaa Millaa Falls; but the faucets did not work.
