My Souvenirs From Air France Concorde

This includes the full menu for brunch.

I found at least some of the souvenirs which I received after flying as a passenger aboard Air France Concorde ship number F-BVFB — so although this article will feature photographs of my souvenirs from Air France Concorde, I still have yet to find the photographs of my experience.

At four minutes and 57 seconds into this video which I shot, the menus for Concorde were being given out to passengers aboard the airplane.

Both the front cover and back cover of the menu featured a pattern of stylized Concorde airplanes.

Below the Universal Product Code was “A consommer avant: 01 / 2004”, which basically means that the chocolate should be consumed by January of 2004.

A member of the crew presented me with a large envelope prior to the conclusion of the flight.

Inside the envelope was a certificate that I broke the sound barrier aboard Concorde on Air France flight 001 on Sunday, May 25, 2003; and it was signed by the captain of the airplane.

Final Boarding Call

If memory serves me correctly, I believe that I also have a special Concorde pen from the experience — as well as a card that was signed by every member of the flight crew, as the flight occurred during the last week that Air France was flying Concorde supersonic airplanes before they were permanently retired. If I find them, I will feature them in the future here at The Gate With Brian Cohen.

In the meantime, you can read about my experience with Air France Concorde in this article.

  1. I used to regret not redeeming a Concorde award but I recently changed my mind. Decisions made 20-25 years ago were sound. In addition, if you say you flew aboard the Concorde now, it means that you’re really old! It is as if you said in the 1980’s that you flew aboard the deHavilland Comet!

I have flown aboard some obscure variants like the 737-200QC, 747SP, Fokker 70, One-Eleven (various models), A340-500, etc.

    1. I do not care how old anyone thinks I am, derek, as long as I had the opportunity to fly aboard Concorde.

Besides, I feel pretty much the same way now as I did back then — and I have been writing at this blog for 18 years as of next month.

Don’t ever let sound decisions back then cause you to regret anything now. No one can do everything all of the time. We have all had our share of missed opportunities — and they are usually for good and sound reasons…

  2. Didn’t you use the InsideFlyer magazine subscription -> Starwood -> Qantas deal to fly Concorde with BA on the relative cheap?

A lot of us then on FlyerTalk did just that. But maybe it was +/- 1 year of Canarsie popping up as such there.

    1. I did not, GUWonder. That was just before my time on FlyerTalk.

Rather, I redeemed 160,000 Delta Air Lines SkyMiles for the round trip — but because Concorde already had ceased to fly prior to my return, I was refunded 40,000 of those SkyMiles — and instead of going from Rome to Paris to New York to Atlanta just to fly aboard Concorde again, I was put on a direct nonstop flight between Rome and Atlanta in business class on a Boeing 777.

Not too bad of a deal, I must say…

      1. That’s some nice optimization of DL mileage back then at a time when DL was only getting started in getting greedy with fleecing the loyalty program customers. Nowadays, DL would probably want 1.6 million miles if AF’s Concorde service was still around and maybe it would not only be stingier over a “downgrade” but even try to charge YQ on the award ticket. Oh, and AF would probably not release any mileage seats unless using AF/KL miles as a Platinum+ member in the AF/KL program.

I never got around to using DL miles like that back then, mainly due to a shortage of time because of all the other flying. [10k-25k miles of flying per week can sort of get in the way. :D]

  3. At JFK Terminal 1, was there direct boarding from the lounge? I know when AF departed from the IAB terminal there was direct lounge boarding (from the movie Sabrina).

    1. I believe that boarding was indeed directly from the lounge to the airplane, Sam — and the video seems to support that.

    2. Yes, AF has long had a thing for “board from lounge”. JFK and ORD were the two places that accounted for the majority of my TATL “board from lounge” US-origin flights because AF really had a thing for doing this from AF lounges.
