W here do you believe the oldest restaurants in each state of the United States and the District of Columbia are located — and how old are they?
Moreover, which restaurant do you believe is the oldest restaurant in the United States?
I recently dined in what the Guinness Book of World Records considers the oldest restaurant in the world in Madrid; but readers of The Gate disputed that claim with examples of other restaurants which are older.
Learning my lesson from that article, I am not about to attempt to verify the claims reported in this article written by Matt Meltzer of Thrillist; I will instead leave that up to you to post in the Comments section below which restaurants you believe are the oldest in each state in the United States and the District of Columbia…
…but one of the restaurants in the list purportedly pre-dates the one in which I dined in Madrid by 39 years — the same year which The Café Procope in Paris opened, which was brought to my attention by reader Joseph May — and is supposedly the oldest restaurant in the United States.
Of those two restaurants, I wonder which one is actually older…?
For the record, I have not dined in any of the restaurants featured in that article. Have you? If so, are they worth visiting?
