It was not the best of sunsets. It was not the worst of sunsets. However, driving past sunset on Interstate 22 in northwestern Alabama was something I wanted to photograph simply because of the colors in the sky.

Perhaps it was simply the way I was feeling that summer evening: a rare carefree feeling. I was on the road on my way to staying at the Caption by Hyatt Beale Street Memphis hotel property, of which I have written a full review. Little did I know that I would be the very first guest of that brand worldwide — ever.
The patterns of the clouds contributed to that skyscape that evening; and as I approached exit 11 near the towns of Hamilton and Sulligent, the increasingly vibrant colors gave way to a peaceful darkness on a lone empty highway — save for the occasional car or truck that I passed.
Final Boarding Call
Driving on an Interstate highway with sparse traffic in the United States is becoming increasingly rarer — especially in the eastern half of the United States — but doing so is thankfully still possible…
…and a sunset accentuating the experience is only an improvement.
