Despite the fact that most of the travel industry throughout the entire planet has suffered substantially due to the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic, mandatory daily resort fees have quietly increased at some of the casino and hotel properties of the portfolio of one company in Las Vegas.
Resort Fees Have Quietly Increased March 2021 at These Hotel Properties in Las Vegas
Effective as of Tuesday, March 2, 2021, the following casino and hotel properties of the portfolio of Caesars Entertainment Corporation in Las Vegas whose mandatory resort fees have quietly increased include:
- Paris Las Vegas — to $39.00 per night plus tax; and $44.21 with tax included — an increase of $2.26 from $41.95 with tax included.
- Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino Las Vegas — to $39.00 per night plus tax; and $44.21 with tax included — an increase of $2.26 from $41.95 with tax included.
- The Cromwell Las Vegas — to $45.00 per night plus tax; and $51.02 with tax included.
Using Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino Las Vegas as an example — as part of the semi-annual sale of Caesars Entertainment — I decided to start the process of booking a room rate…
…and I found plenty of dates with the base room rate of $45.00 — which is a discount of $15.00 from the typical room rate of $60.00 — so I wanted to see if the mandatory daily resort fee actually did increase. I chose to check in on Monday, April 19, 2021 and check out on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
Sure enough, the mandatory daily resort fee per night was indeed $39.00 — and with tax included, the base room rate of $45.00 for the “ultra hip room” with one king bed with no smoking permitted more than doubled in price to $95.24.
What is included in the mandatory daily resort fee, you might ask?
- High speed WiFi for two devices per room per day
- Fitness Center access for for two daily
- Unlimited local telephone calls
Summary
Mandatory resort fees at four hotel and resort properties of Caesars Entertainment Corporation had similarly increased by two dollars from $35.00 to $37.00 per night effective as of Tuesday, March 3, 2020 — and that is not including taxes — which means that you will pay as much as $41.95 per night in addition to the room rate.
The good news is that resort fee charges do not apply to members of the Caesars Rewards loyalty program who have earned either Diamond elite status or Seven Stars elite status — apparently unlike MGM Resorts International, which requires all members of the M life Rewards loyalty program to pay mandatory daily resort fees regardless of elite status.
“Simply booking a hotel room at a reasonable room rate should not be an overly complicated process” is what I wrote in this article yesterday pertaining to MGM Resorts being sued for false advertising via resort fees by Travelers United. “However, MGM Resorts International is certainly not the only casino and hotel company in Las Vegas which charges mandatory daily resort fees, as many major lodging companies — typically with casinos and entertainment venues — charge them as well.” Caesars Entertainment is another one of those lodging companies.
That I vehemently oppose the implementation of mandatory daily resort fees, facilities fees and destination fees is no secret to you if you have been a reader of The Gate for years — they should either be optional or eliminated altogether — and I will just let this extensive body of work over the years pertaining to mandatory daily resort fees speak for me…
