Consider ensuring that you have alternate plans ready to be implemented in case your travels are adversely affected because of a dangerously strong system causing severe weather to impact the northeastern United States May 2024.
Severe Weather to Impact Northeastern United States: May 2024 Travel Alert
The following statement is currently posted at the official Internet web site of the National Weather Service of the United States:
Severe Weather and Excessive Rain in the Ohio and Tennessee Valley; Dangerous Heat in the South
Widespread strong to severe thunderstorms may produce large hail, damaging wind gusts, a few tornadoes, and flash flooding across parts of the lower Missouri Valley into the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. Dangerous and potentially record-breaking heat continues across parts of Texas, the western Gulf Coast, southern Florida, and Puerto Rico.
That weather in the Ohio Valley and Tennessee Valley will be moving into the northeastern United States as soon as tomorrow, Monday, May 27, 2024.
Although severe weather is forecast to occur from northeastern Georgia to southern Québec, the area from central North Carolina to central New York State has the greatest chance of experiencing hail, flash flooding, wind gusts of up to 75 miles per hour, and even isolated tornadoes in some areas.
Travel will be affected accordingly.
Tornado warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service for portions of Kentucky and Indiana and are currently in effect until 10:00 in the evening Central Daylight Time.
