When I saw whole panes of shattered glass in Illinois at the former Holiday Inn Chicago-Elk Grove hotel property — of which I reviewed in this article — at the swimming pool area, I took some photographs of them.

Like snowflakes, the pattern on each pane of shattered glass is unique.
The shattering of glass that remains intact seems to be a freeform work of art.

Trivia time: Glass is created from sand that is mixed with soda ash and limestone — yet despite being derived from a natural material, glass does not decompose and is not biodegradable. Not all types of glass can be recycled, either. Also, glass is officially neither a solid or a liquid — it is actually classified as an amorphous solid.
