“Snatching My Kids’ Inheritance From Their Grasping Fingers.”

What exactly was meant by that?

“Thanks Brian for snatching my kids’ inheritance from their grasping fingers.” That is what was said to me during lunch in Las Vegas on Monday, February 23, 2026, whose participants included two veteran members of FlyerTalk that I personally have known for years.

FlyerTalk members are known to be frequent travelers who visit many countries and territories around the world. The topic somehow veered towards my recent trip to Antarctica — a continent to which both FlyerTalk members have yet to go…

…but cost is a significant factor towards embarking on such a trip — and by the time an executive summary of the reasons why they should take the trip was given, one of them said “Thanks Brian for snatching my kids’ inheritance from their grasping fingers.” That meant that he will spend the money to take his wife and himself to Antarctica, to which the other member of FlyerTalk similarly concurred for himself and his wife.

He also said “If I don’t fly first class, my kids will” multiple times during our conversations over lunch. Both statements basically mean the same thing: if you have money, spend it on yourself — for after you die, the money will mean nothing to you and will instead be passed down to your children for them to enjoy.

To put what he said another way: enjoy life while you can.

Enjoying life while you can seemed to be a theme for some of the people who were on the expedition to Antarctica with me, on which I intend to expound in a future article…

…as it is yet another way to maintaining perspective in life.

The recent news pertaining to the perceived significant devaluations with both the United Airlines MileagePlus membership program and the World of Hyatt membership program — which might be discussed in a future article here at The Gate With Brian Cohen — can be depressing…

…but they are simply membership programs. Membership programs almost always get devalued; but it is not the end of the world. We will all somehow survive.

Whether you use points, miles, or money, enjoy your travels while you are still healthy enough to do so — for as we are continuously reminded that nothing lasts forever.

In other words: snatch your kids’ inheritance from their grasping fingers — even if you have no children…
