Greater than 9,000 rooms will be added to the portfolio of Marriott International, Incorporated by the end of this year as an agreement for the long term with Sonder Holdings Incorporated was announced earlier today, Monday, August 19, 2024 to create Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy, which becomes brand number 35.

Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy primarily consists of apartment-style accommodations and small boutique hotel properties in urban markets across North America, Europe, and the Middle East. At least 1,500 additional rooms are currently in the pipeline for the future.
“Marriott now expects full year 2024 net rooms growth of 6 to 6.5 percent”, according to this official press release from Marriott. “The Sonder pipeline rooms are anticipated to be added to Marriott’s system over the next few years. Under the agreement, Marriott will receive a royalty fee based on a percentage of Sonder gross room revenues.”
Sonder Holdings Incorporated was founded in 2014 and is expected to be fully integrated with Marriott Bonvoy in 2025. According to the aforementioned press release, “Appealing to key demographics, including younger travelers, these assets leverage a digital-first operating model and cater to longer stays.”
Final Boarding Call
Members of the Marriott Bonvoy membership program are expected to be able to earn and redeem points on stays at approximately 200 Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy hotel properties. No specific date was given.
Marriott International, Incorporated actually will have 36 brands in its portfolio; but Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts does not participate in the Marriott Bonvoy membership program.
