“You can get through TSA checkpoints like a pro with this tip. And if everyone did it the TSA process would be smooth and efficient. That tip is to put your crap in your damn bag before getting to the scanner area! Please, I beg of you!!!”
Stupid Tip of the Day: Put Metal Objects and Other Items Into Your Bag Before Entering the Airport Security Checkpoint
What you just read was quoted from this article written by Mark Ostermann of Miles to Memories; and it reminded me of something that I do without thinking every time I travel.
After I finish checking in for a flight — whether via a kiosk or a live agent — I then empty my pockets and remove my belt; and I place everything in a side zippered pocket of my carry on bag before proceeding to the airport security checkpoint, at which I breeze through almost every single time as a result.
Every time I am at an airport security checkpoint, I witness the inevitable: either a person who does not even think about emptying pockets and removing jewelry and other items from his or her body first starts doing just that at the very last second; or someone will set off the scanner because he or she did not ensure that everything was removed and placed in a pocket in a piece of luggage. Both types of people hold up traffic and contribute to causing long lines.
Summary
Mark Ostermann is correct in that the entire process of going through the security checkpoint at an airport would be significantly smoother and more efficient if everyone performed this simple and quick procedure. Queues would likely be shorter and faster…
…and queues would certainly be shorter and faster if all of the lines at an airport security checkpoint were manned and opened — but similar to at a bank or a supermarket, I never understood why so many lines are built but never simultaneously available…
