Because the scene caught my eye, I took this photograph of two men walking somewhere near downtown Bogotá. One of the men was dressed in a suit without a tie as he walked along the sidewalk; and the other man wore a tattered T-shirt with long sleeves and what seems to be twill work pants while he was dragging a cart filled with boxes, two tires, a full black garbage bag, and other items along the side of the street.

I was not sure of what to think of what I saw in this part of the capital city of Colombia. Did one of the men work for the other? Were they good friends sharing a conversation as they walked together? Or was the scene merely two complete strangers who noticed each other as they were going about their business of the day?

Final Boarding Call
Regardless of what is going on in the photograph, one of many thoughts was that we need to remind ourselves that every person contributes to society in one form or another — and with the way the world has been rather divisive within the past couple of years, this photograph is a reminder that we need to respect one another, discuss our differences, and agree to disagree.
I really like capturing a small slice of life with my camera whenever I travel. To me, that tells a story more than photographs at a popular “tourist trap” to which everyone flocks and has seen countless times. This photograph is one of those small slices of life, in my opinion.
