Traveling as a passenger aboard an airplane can be rather trying these days when taking into account more expensive airfares, fewer flights, more crowds of people traveling, and delays and cancellations which can jeopardize the arrival at the final destination on time — but one airline has managed to stand out in terms of punctuality for 18 consecutive years…
The Most Punctual Airline in the United States in 2021 Is…
…and that airline is Hawaiian Airlines, which has once again been the most punctual airline in the United States in 2021, according to statistics which are included in this document from the Air Travel Consumer Report of the Office of Aviation Consumer Protection, as provided by the Department of Transportation of the United States.
The airlines — including branded codeshare partners — which are based in the United States and are ranked in order of punctuality for the year 2021 include:
- Hawaiian Airlines — 90.14 percent
- Delta Air Lines — 88.22 percent
- Alaska Airlines — 83.17 percent
- American Airlines — 81.58 percent
- United Airlines — 79.81 percent
- Spirit Airlines — 76.74 percent
- Frontier Airlines — 76.64 percent
- Southwest Airlines — 75.78 percent
- JetBlue Airways — 72.31 percent
- Allegiant Air — 68.26 percent
Moreover, that 90.14 percent punctuality rate by Hawaiian Airlines not only exceeded the total average on-flight rate for 2021 by almost nine percentage points at 81.08 percent, according to this official press release from the airline; but it also bested its own 2020 punctuality rate of 87.5 percent of its 45,504 flights being on time for that year.
Hawaiian Airlines is poised to extend that punctuality streak to 19 years, as with a punctuality rate of 83 percent, it is currently the most punctual airline in the United States in 2022, according to statistics which are included in this document from the Air Travel Consumer Report of the Office of Aviation Consumer Protection, as provided by the Department of Transportation of the United States.
At 68.26 percent, the least punctual airline in the United States is Allegiant Air.
Hawaiian Airlines is offering one-way fares between the mainland United States and Hawaii for as low as $119.00 each way through as late as November of 2022, with a new nonstop flight between Oakland and Kona effective as of Wednesday, June 15, 2022.
Final Boarding Call
Two flaws do tend to cloud this accomplishment: first, Hawaiian Airlines itself operates fewer flights than many of its competitors; and the statistics of four of those airlines — American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines — also include branded codeshare partners, which tend to exhibit worse performance in punctuality than the main airlines themselves and probably contributed to lowering the overall percentages.
Still, congratulations to Hawaiian Airlines on achieving such an impeccable performance pertaining to punctuality.
