The Only Guest at a Hotel or Resort Property. Twice. In One Year.

Has this ever happened to you?

I am currently in the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador, where until yesterday, we were the only guests at our resort property — and this experience occurred twice within one year.

Being the only guest at a hotel or resort property has unknowingly never happened to me in the past; but it also occurred earlier this year in Vanuatu, where we were the last guests to stay at a resort property — and after we left, the resort property was closed until the next guests were scheduled to arrive the following week.

Benefits include:

  • Personalized service
  • No crowds
  • Peace and quiet

Disadvantages include:

  • Not everything that the hotel or resort property offers may be available if not enough guests are staying there
  • Possibly feeling a twinge of guilt that so many members of the staff are around just because I happen to be the only guest
  • The inability to simply blend in with the crowd, as members of the staff know that only you are there

Final Boarding Call

I have been the only passenger that was seated in the first class cabin aboard an airplane — but I do not recall ever being the only passenger aboard the entire airplane. I know I have come close to that several times, though.

Have you ever been the only guest at a hotel or resort property? If so, please impart your experience.
