These Hilton Brands Will Be 100 Percent Pet Friendly By April 2022

Fur what it is worth. Mewoof. Woofow.

If you want to travel with your furry companion next year, you are in luck: effective as of Friday, April 1, 2022, at least 4,500 hotel properties across six brands of the Hilton portfolio will become 100 percent pet friendly as the result of a partnership with Mars Petcare — which is the largest pet care company in the world — and consistent pet fees which start at $50.00 per stay will be introduced.

The six brands which are participating in this program — which is expected to set a new standard for travel that is friendly to pets — are:

  • Embassy Suites
  • Hampton Inn and Suites
  • Hilton Garden Inn
  • Home2 Suites by Hilton
  • Homewood Suites by Hilton
  • Tru by Hilton

Two of the brands — Home2 Suites by Hilton and Homewood Suites by Hilton — will actually be 100 percent friendly to pets in the United States and Canada effective as of Saturday, January 1, 2022, with the implementation of programming and benefits which will be focused on pets.

“As pet ownership continues to rise, people are spending more time with pets now than ever before. A recent online survey revealed that 85% of pet parents say they’re likely to travel in the next year, and 65% say they’ll bring their pets along. By combining their industry-leading expertise in hospitality and pets, Hilton and Mars Petcare have come together to anticipate and address the needs of pet parents to make traveling together more seamless and enjoyable”, according to this official press release from Hilton. “Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, approximately 23 million U.S. homes welcomed a new pet, which accounts for nearly 1 in 5 households. After months of spending extra time at home with their furry friends, 58 percent of pet parents say they are seeking pet-friendly accommodations.”

Potential problems in the hotel properties may include noisy or rambunctious pets, health issues for other guests who may have allergy issues to pet dander, and that the rooms may not be cleaned enough for the next guest after pets have stayed in them — but I suppose some people would say the same about children.

Questions which remain include:

  • How many pets are allowed in one room during a stay? Can someone bring their ten cats and five dogs for a stay?
  • Will pets be permitted in common areas of the hotel property — such as places in which people dine or fitness rooms?
  • What pets are deemed acceptable to the program? Can a ferret, a miniature horse, a turkey, or a pig stay as a pet?
  • What happens if a pet is considered out of control?
  • What will the actual total costs be to keep a pet in the room?
  • Will this program be expanded to other brands of the Hilton portfolio?
  • Is the program still only limited to the United States and Canada — and if so, will it be expanded to other countries around the world?
  • Will the property owners and managers be ultimately happy with this new program?

    1. Even then, maybe you better look to IHG or Best Western. Marriott is virtually anti pet so that is also an option

    2. We are very allergic and there should be rooms separate for pet owners. We have stayed in Hilton properties for years while traveling, but no more if we cannot get a room that has been free of pets. You should be able to accommodate both!

  1. I like Hilton Garden Inn. I will no longer be staying there. When I am on business travel, I do not want flea bites.

    1. pick Marriott
almost impossible to find one of their brands that are pet friendly

The problem, like unruly children, is the pet parents. If you truly care for your pets they are medicated so there are no parasites in or on the pet.
But I understand the concerns of those allergic to a cat

  2. This marks the end of my stays at Embassy Suites and Hilton Garden Inn. There’s obviously no concern for allergy sufferers or guests who value hotel cleanliness. The decision to go 100 percent pet friendly is rather irresponsible, and might come back to bite Hilton in the behind. Not paying to have cats and dogs forced on me during hotel visits. My money can be better spent.

  3. As a long time Hilton Honors member, I am done with this chain. Hilton properties used to be one of our favorites, but since there are no pet free locations I won’t be spending my hard earned money to stay at a upscale kennel! Due to allergies and having a special needs daughter who is afraid of dogs we CAN’T stay here. These properties are going to go downhill fast. You cannot clean well enough to eliminate dander in every room of a hotel. I just found out about this policy after having made several reservations for this fall, thinking they were at pet free locations. Cancelled and found other options. So disappointed with Hilton!

  4. I am a member of Hilton hotels. I became a member because Hilton chain has always offered CLEAN rooms and common areas. But, we are permanently moving from New Mexico to New Jersey taking 2 indoor cats with us. I am allergic to unfamiliar dogs and cats. If It wasn’t necessary to travel with my pets I would not. Once settled in, my cats are not allowed to leave room until we check out. Traveling with pets is not the norm for us so I would feel same as patrons without pets staying at hotel. I am in agreement that there should be designated areas where pet owners can bring pets if they are removed from assigned rooms and that owners should clean up mishaps from pets not housekeeping and outdoor pets should be clean so as not to infest rooms. I certainly don’t want to be in infested rooms be it bed bugs, fleas or anything else that can be picked up to travel to infest other place.

  5. Been Hilton Honors member for years. Done with Hilton. 25 million people with asthma and other allergies will have to find other lodging.
