Sometimes something as simple as a towel bar in Ushuaia in Argentina can seem more like modern fine art when photographed a certain way…

…and that was the case with this photograph, which did not make the final cut in this article pertaining to being welcomed aboard Swan Hellenic SH Minerva, which was the ship that transported us to Antarctica. For some reason, I liked the sleek lines of both the towel bar and its shadow in contrast to the gradated light that shone upon the towel bar and the wall behind it.

Trivia time: Early forms of stationary towel racks were either simple beams or hooks for draping fabrics with a focus on drying and preserving cloths in public baths in Rome and in Greece in the nineteenth century. They did not become standard fixtures in bathrooms until the early twentieth century.
