Tsunami Warning Issued For Hawaii July 2025: Travel Alert
Additionally, tsunami advisories stretch from southern Alaska — which include the Aleutian Islands — all the way along the Pacific coasts of Canada and the United States to Rincon Point in California, which is located approximately 15 miles southeast of Santa Barbara.
Affected areas could expect a deluge of up to three meters of water, which could potentially cause flooding.
An official threat of possibly being affected by a tsunami was also issued for the Northern Marianas Islands, Guam, eastern Japan, Midway Island, and many other islands, territories, and countries in the Pacific Ocean. Even countries as far south as Vanuatu could experience a rise of up to one meter in water.
According to the National Weather Service, a tsunami warning means:
Take Action—Danger! A tsunami that may cause widespread flooding is expected or occurring. Dangerous coastal flooding and powerful currents are possible and may continue for several hours or days after initial arrival.
Follow instructions from local officials. Evacuation is recommended. Move to high ground or inland (away from the water).
…and a tsunami advisory means:
Take Action—A tsunami with potential for strong currents or waves dangerous to those in or very near the water is expected or occurring. There may be flooding of beach and harbor areas. Stay out of the water and away from beaches and waterways. Follow instructions from local officials.
The epicenter of the earthquake — whose magnitude was measured at 8.8 on the Richter scale — is located approximately 315 miles southwest of Bering Island in Komandorskiye at a depth of 46 miles. A series of powerful aftershocks have been occurring as well.
