Due to the effects of Typhoon Ampil to affect Japan August 2024, you may want to consider delaying your travel — or, at least, keep yourself updated as to the latest information pertaining to the weather — if Japan is in your travel plans over the next few days.
Typhoon Ampil to Affect Japan: August 2024 Travel Alert
Maximum sustained winds of Typhoon Ampil — which is currently approximately 468 miles south of Yokosuka in Japan and moving north northeast at a speed of nine miles per hour — are at 75 miles per hour, which means that it is currently equivalent to a minimal hurricane.
Landfall of Typhoon Ampil is not expected during its course; but it will pass east of Tokyo and the eastern coast of Japan before turning towards the northeast out into open waters of the northern Pacific Ocean.
Gusty winds and significant precipitation is possible in portions of Tokyo and eastern Japan, which is expected to result in considerable urban flooding and flash flooding. Rough surf, strong rip currents, and a storm surge are expected to contribute to the aforementioned significant flooding of portions of the eastern coast of Japan.
