A direct landfall of the city by the typhoon is possible.

Due to the effects of Typhoon Bebinca to impact Shanghai September 2024, you may want to consider delaying your travel — or, at least, keep yourself updated as to the latest information pertaining to the weather — if eastern China is in your travel plans over the next few days.

Landfall of Typhoon Bebinca could occur just to the south of Shanghai — which would mean that Shanghai would on the more dangerous side of the hurricane with stronger winds and torrential precipitation — as early as the late night hours of tomorrow, Sunday, September 15, 2024; and its path is currently projected to continue tracking  into China.

Gusty winds and significant precipitation is possible in portions of Shanghai and surrounding areas of eastern China, which is expected to result in considerable urban flooding and flash flooding. Rough surf, strong rip currents, and a storm surge are expected to contribute to the aforementioned significant flooding of portions of much of the greater Shanghai metropolitan area.

Expect electric power lines to fail and power to be out; trees to fall; and services such as trains to be delayed or temporarily suspended. Isolated tornadoes are not out of the question.
