As with Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, I rarely ever get upgraded at Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton hotel properties; so I never expect them — but I was surprised to find out from the person behind the front desk as I was checking in for the night that I was upgraded to a Pure Wellness room at Hampton Inn Evansville.
Upgraded to Pure Wellness Room at Hampton Inn
The portico outside of the hotel property was being remodeled at the time when I arrived; so I had to navigate the construction from the parking lot by following the signs for entry. As I mentioned in this article of 7 reasons why mid-range hotel properties are the best value, mid-range hotel properties have significantly improved overall in recent years — and the Hampton Inn Evansville hotel property appears to be no exception.
While I was checking in, the person behind the front desk let me know that I had been “upgraded” to a Pure Wellness room. I was pleasantly surprised and thanked the person; and my curiosity was piqued as to exactly what is a Pure Wellness room.
I also received a bag which contained bottled water and a package of chocolate wafer cookies, which was appreciated.
I then ventured off to the Pure Wellness room that was assigned to me.
The Room
I walked into the room, which seemed like it was renovated but definitely had vestiges of a room found at older Hampton Inns.
The bed was a typical one found in Hampton Inn hotel properties — and it was comfortable.
The closet contained a luggage rack, an ironing board, an iron, eight hangers, a luggage rack, a plastic laundry bag, and a device that was an odd shape and swiveled. Perhaps its purpose is to hang a tie or a belt or something else that is long and slender?
A microwave oven, a miniature refrigerator, and a flat screen television were included in the room. Access to the Internet via Wi-Fi worked well.
The desk on wheels and the small blue table gives plenty of space on which to work. Two chairs are available in the room, which was illuminated well. Although an adequate number of electrical outlets were available, no Universal Serial Ports were found in the room.
On the desk was a coffee machine with assorted coffees, teas, and condiments. An ice bucket with a plastic bag was located in one of the nightstands next to the bed, which had an ordinary alarm clock on it.
The Pure Wellness air-handling unit was on; and it emitted a constant “white” noise. I did not notice any scent or odor. As a person who grew up in Brooklyn with an air conditioner humming in the window during the summer, I sleep well with a constant background noise.
I did not try out any of the controls on the air-handling unit, which was located opposite the bed and purportedly delivers the most comprehensive indoor environment wellness program that eliminates 99 percent allergens in the hotel room. This experience enhances the well-being of the guest so that the guest can sleep better and be at his or her best.
- Relaxing environment with the best quality air
- Wake up feeling refreshed and revitalized
- Gives the guest peace of mind
- Environmentally friendly
The Pure Wellness room undergoes a patented process which requires seven steps, according to a sign which is affixed to the back of the door of the entrance to the room:
- Carpet and upholstery sanitation using all natural plant based PURE Clean
- One time, shock treatment of the entire room to minimize contaminants
- Complete sanitation and treatment of air-handling unit
- Installation of tea tree oil cartridge in air-handling unit
- Application of PURE Shield™ anti-microbial treatment
- Installation of Hypo-Allergenic pillow and mattress encasements
- Installation of air purification system (Class II Medical device)
The Bathroom
The design and layout of the bathroom was the most telling sign that this hotel property was one of the older ones, as I had not seen a sink in the corner in years. The bathroom was rather small but clean and adequate, with Kleenex tissues and plenty of towels.
The shower head is adjustable.
A hair dryer was in a cloth bag and hanging on one of the hooks on the wall adjacent to the bath tub.
As the bathroom in the Hampton Inn Evansville hotel property has yet to be equipped with bulk dispensers for amenities, small bottles of Neutrogena body lotion and conditioner were found on a shelf above the sink — as well as a small bottle of Nourish WELL shampoo, of which I have never heard.
ZERO/o face soap was in its own box; and on the rim of the tub was a bar of Almond&Olive facial soap, which supposedly contains oatmeal and almond…? Where is the olive? Are olive and oatmeal the same?!?
The View
The interchange between Lloyd Expressway and Interstate 69 dominated the view from the room…
…and of the WoodSpring Suites hotel property on the other side of Lloyd Expressway.
Included in the view below the window to my room was that of a Dumpster.
The Orthopedic and Neuroscience Hospital was also part of the view from the room.
Breakfast
Plenty of seating was available in the breakfast area.
Scrambled eggs, pork sausage patties, and red skin potatoes were among the usual items often found at breakfast in a typical Hampton Inn hotel property…
…as were assorted dry cereals, dough balls with holes in them impersonating as bagels and assorted breads, oatmeal, condiments, cold water, and assorted beverages from a machine.
Two flavors of waffles were offered for breakfast at the Hampton Inn Evansville hotel property: malted vanilla and cinnamon roll. Both are good on their own; and even better with toppings.
Yoplait yogurt in assorted flavors and types were offered — as well as whole apples that were wrapped in plastic wrap and napkins.
One station opposite the front desk offers assorted coffees and teas — as well as assorted condiments; and cocoa and hot water for hot chocolate.
Other Areas of the Hotel Property
Adjacent to the front desk is a place where snacks, beverages, frozen food products, sundries, and other items may be purchased.
The fitness room is somewhat small…
…but it does contain enough equipment for a good workout — along with two flat screen televisions mounted on opposite walls for entertainment purposes.
Hampton Inn Evansville is one of the few hotel properties which does not have a water cooler of any type in its fitness room; so you are out of luck if you want to fill an empty bottle with cold water.
Even though a dispenser for purchasing soap, bleach, and softeners can be expected in a laundry room, the laundry room is an unusual place for a rack full of free brochures of what to do in the area, as the laundry room can only be accessed by guests and employees with a key.
The laundry room contains only one coin operated washing machine and one clothes dryer; so you are out of luck if either are already in use. A fire extinguisher hangs on the wall of the laundry room in the unlikely event of a fire.
An indoor swimming pool is available to guests of the Hampton Inn Evansville hotel property.
Final Boarding Call
I recommend staying at the Hampton Inn Evansville hotel property, which was clean and comfortable in general — but as a person who has no known allergies, I cannot say that I actually felt any difference between sleeping in a Pure Wellness room versus a regular room. I did not feel any more refreshed and revitalized than in other hotel rooms. Perhaps I am missing something? Maybe this room is better suited for those people with respiratory issues and considered an upgrade for them?
In checking the rates for rooms for one night on Tuesday, August 15, 2023…
…the base rate of a Pure Wellness room costs $20.00 more than a regular room — and that is before taxes are added — so perhaps this is an upgrade?
The room rate at Hampton Inn Evansville was $92.56. With taxes, the total bill cost me $106.44.
Hampton Inn Evansville is conveniently located off of exit 7B on Interstate 69. Give yourself at least 18 minutes to drive to or from Evansville Regional Airport, which is located 10.9 miles northwest of the hotel property.
