Uzbekistan to No Longer Require Visas For Citizens of the United States

The stay will be valid for up to 30 days.

Uzbekistan will offer visa free entry to visitors of the United States effective as of Thursday, January 1, 2026, which means that visitors from those countries will save as much as $20.00 in fees. The purpose of this measure is to increase tourism, boost the economy, support entrepreneurship, and strengthen the international projection of Uzbekistan by facilitating the entry of visitors, investors, and people who are involved in international cooperation. The visit will be valid for up to 30 days.

Uzbekistan to No Longer Require Visas For Citizens of the United States

The entry of citizens of the United States without a visa resulted from a lengthy decree from the president of the republic of Uzbekistan in Tashkent on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev is the current president of Uzbekistan.

Bizarrely, travelers from the United States who are ages 55 and older already had the ability to visit Uzbekistan without a visa since 2021.

Final Boarding Call

Similarly with Bolivia, I hope that Uzbekistan succeeds beyond its wildest dreams. As I have never visited that country, I now have more of an incentive to do so. More countries should consider following the lead of Uzbekistan, in my opinion.

Idealistically, I would really like to see the day where you and I can travel anywhere in the world with few to no impediments; but with human nature being the way it is, I know that will not happen anytime soon — if at all…

…but at least the world still seems to generally be heading closer towards that goal overall — even if it is only at a glacial pace…

  1. A trivial vignette regarding my UZB visa (2006) My son was working in Tashkent for a US NGO. I applied and was granted a visa (100 USD) via the UZB embassy in Washington DC. My return flight to the US was the day after the visa expiration. Four days prior to departing, my son called the main UZB immigration office. He was told, a one day expiration would not be a problem to exit. The day of departure I presented my passport with visa attached. To this day, 19 years later, firmly implanted in my memory, I still visualize the booth, with three, uniformed immigration officials. (Two male, one female) They thumb thru my passport and obviously saw the expired visa and excitedly pass it around with much animated discussion. (Forgive me Brian). I thought they were going to have an “orgasm”. My son and I tried to explain, to no avail, we were told by the main office, a one day expiration should be ok to exit. After much discussion by the three immigration officials, a third official appeared. He explained I would have apply for another visa. He created and affixed to my passport a one day visa; hologram and all for 100 USD.
Since you have never been to UZB I am tempted to write more; But not.
