If you are redeeming points of the JetBlue Airways TrueBlue frequent flier loyalty program for an award flight or possibly another option, you may be charged a fee of $15.00 per person in addition to taxes and other fees.
Watch Out: $15 Charge to Redeem JetBlue TrueBlue Points May Be Added
Several members of FlyerTalk have reported within this past week that they are being charged a fee of $15.00 per person simply for redeeming their points for award flights — but FlyerTalk member NLS posted that the charge was “showing any more — the customer service rep said there were web issues all day and this might have been a glitch. They said if I had been charged they would reverse it. (I’m now just getting a plain old error message when I try to redeem points.)”
FlyerTalk member AutoSlash confirmed the discovery with screen shots — as well as a screen shot of the final charge — as evidence: “We just tried to make a points booking for LAX-JFK and found that Jetblue was trying to slip in an extra $15 (per person) fee which was not disclosed earlier in the booking process.”
Final Boarding Call
Whether this is a current unannounced change in policy with no advance notice, a future change in policy which may have accidentally been released, or simply a technology issue which needs to be resolved — I have a feeling that the latter is the actual issue — keep an eye on the entire process if you are redeeming TrueBlue points for award flights with JetBlue Airways or other awards to see if you are being charged that “fee” of $15.00.
Because I do not have enough TrueBlue points to redeem for an award flight, I cannot verify the claims — but I wanted to alert you so that you can be better prepared in the event that you become affected by this issue.
