What Is Wrong With This Photograph? Part 310

Was I cornered at this point?

For this edition of this popular game, can you guess what you believe is wrong — or, at least, seemingly quite bizarre — with this photograph part 310?

I stopped to take the following photograph as I recently walked in a residential area near the corner of where two streets intersect.

Answer to What is Wrong With This Photograph? Part 309

I was driving south on Foley Beach Express in the city of Foley in Alabama recently; and two speed limit signs of 50 miles per hour were immediately blocking the signs which warn motorists to slow down to a speed limit of 35 miles per hour as they were approaching traffic signals ahead. Also, the 0 in each of the speed limit signs are not actually a zero; but rather, a capital letter O, which was sloppily placed on each sign.

Although a shoulder was present, extracting an interactive photograph from the Street View of Google Maps was safer than stopping along the side of the road to take a photograph for myself. Also, the interactive map gave more of a three dimensional point of view than a simple photograph.

Favorite answer by derek: “What is wrong is the typeface of the 50 mph sign is different. I suspect that it used to be a 55 mph speed limit that was changed to 50. Note the ‘0’ is different from the ‘5’.

“What seems strange is the yellow sign with a ‘35 mph’ notation. What that actually means is there is a stoplight ahead and that the advisory speed is 35 mph. The driver is also informed that the speed limit is 50 mph. In reality, small town Alabama is famous for speed traps. It is conceivable that a policeman may try to issue a ticket if 35 mph is exceeded. However, know that a speed in yellow is only an advisory speed, not a legal speed limit. I would approach the intersection with extreme caution for a speed trap, which often happens when the speed limit suddenly lowers when the road enters a small town.”

Favorite comment by rmah: “50 = 35? that ain’t good math!”

  1. The short answer is that the walkway on the property leads to nowhere or rather the wall of the building. It appears that there was an added room in the corner that now blocks off that walkway.

The longer answer is that there is a myriad of defects and odd construction. The satellite dish is partially blocked by the roof. The siding is warped and has numerous gaps. The columns of the porch do not meet the roof but rather the flared part is slightly below the roof. The warning sign is crooked. There is not a walkway beyond the porch steps. However, living in a house is better than homelessness or living in a prison cell or in a crime ridden neighborhood that requires window bars, so give the people some credit. The money saved by living in a modest home can be saved and invested for retirement in an IRA or similar.

  2. the sidewalk is for ghosts since they can walk through walls. boo! i hope it’s casper’esque and is friendly!
