In past articles in which your participation was not only requested but also helpful and humorous, I did not give the answers to questions which I have posed to you; so this article is the twenty-third of a series to do just that — along with links to the aforementioned articles…
Answers to Past Articles — Part 23: Mask the Safety Way and Do Not Turn Left or Get a Brian With This Car With 660,376 Miles
…and the links are embedded in the titles of each section as well as within the sections themselves; so please click on the links in each section to take you to the original article.
The Favorite Answer will usually be the correct answer by a reader of The Gate — along with a Favorite Comment from the same article which I found to be funny or informative.
What is Wrong With This Photograph? Part 111
The used car market is white hot with sales at the moment — primarily because new cars are either too expensive or difficult to purchase for a number of reasons…
…but the asking price of $14,952 for a 2018 Toyota Yaris iA base sedan with 660,376 miles seems excessive — even in the current environment of used car sales.
The car was apparently no longer being listed, as I could not find it. Perhaps it was actually sold?
I suspect that the substantially high mileage was an error — but I have no proof to substantiate that claim.
Favorite answer by Matthew: “That’s a lot of miles for a 2018 model…”
Favorite comment by Carl WV: “That they’re selling cars when they claim to have a shortage.”
What is Wrong With This Photograph? Part 112
The “photographs” used in this article are supposedly not real; but rather are what are known as “easter eggs” — which are messages, images, or features that are hidden in software — that in this case are found in the game Grand Theft Auto: Online. I stumbled across these images while searching for something else on the Internet, as I do not play online games such as this one.
Although I happen to be “a Brian”, I am not exactly sure what is a Moran — but the phrase originated years ago when a real photograph which dealt with politics had someone holding up a sign with the sentence “Get a brain, you morons.” The letters a and i in the word brain were switched around; and the second letter o in the word morons was inexplicably changed to the letter a.
Favorite answer by Thomas Richard Potter: “The funny thing is, one of my best friends in High School was named Brian Moran. I don’t think he is a socialist though….”
Favorite comment by Amit: “Brian Cohen for president?”
Note: I actually attempted to run for president of the United States…
What is Wrong With This Photograph? Part 113
When driving down this street and approaching an intersection with what is a divided roadway with which the median is not cut through, motorists clearly see an official traffic sign on which the words ONE WAY are printed on it — but take a careful look at the right side of this photograph which shows a pole…
…at the top of this pole in the foreground on the right side of the above photograph is a traffic sign with a symbol which visually depicts not to turn left onto the divided roadway — except that the sign is almost completely obscured by the leaves of a tree.
Another photograph will be posted here within the next few days which best illustrates just how useless the sign became because of the tree.
Favorite answer by derek: “What is wrong is that the road is not one way. They are lying. What is likely is that the road has a median strip or barrier. The correct sign would be no left turn.
“In the first photo, there is a sign that is covered up. That might be a no left turn. Either that or it says ‘speed limit 5, next 20 feet’ in order to be a speed trap.”
Favorite comment by derek: “I have looked at the photo again. For safety, there should be a right turn arrow painted on the road surface. This is not an answer to the question but merely a suggestion for preserving human life. If Brian identifies the location, I will write to city to change it.
“Recently, I wrote to a small town to suggest that they trim a bush that was an extreme hazard, blocking view of a crosswalk, particular if the person crossing was a small child. I volunteered to trim the bush myself if they gave me an ok. They trimmed it themselves soon afterwards.”
What is Wrong With This Photograph? Part 114
That a street sign which identified a small street as Safety Way was significantly bent and badly mangled out of shape while it was attached to a leaning pole struck me as ironic.
Some vehicle must have hit the sign and caused serious damage.
I suppose that is simply not the Safety Way.
Favorite comment and answer by derek: “The photo is downright spooky. It is by the cemetery. The intersection street sign is bent but the street sign part is bent a different way. While the post may have been struck by a vehicle, that would not explain why both ends of the green sign are bent a different way unless ghosts are involved. In March 2021, this sign was upright, according to Google Street View.
“The location is close to 7425 N. Main Street in Woodstock, Georgia (USA, not Republic of Georgia in West Asia). “The short answer of what is wrong with this picture is the street sign has been hit but there is also a strange way that the Safety Way green street sign is bent.”
What is Wrong With This Photograph? Part 115
Recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta of wearing masks or cloth coverings over the nose and mouth to be done are designed to help mitigate the further spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus — but some people may agree with the absurdity of attaching a mask to two buttons which are designed to assist pedestrians in crossing the intersection.
Favorite answer by Doug McGregor: “A pedestrian wrapped their spent/ saturated mask between the two traffic buttons. Is this a joke or flagrant disregard for public safety? Gross!”
Favorite comment by Thomas Richard Potter: “The pedestrian figure on the sign is not wearing his mask.”
