Austria is a beautiful country in which to drive — especially on an Austria highway to Slovenia, on which one can see views of mountains, rivers, and lakes.

I was on my way from the Alsace region in France — specifically, I believe the town of Marckolsheim — to Ljubljana in Slovenia. The road trip included Strasbourg; Stuttgart and Munich in Germany; a stop in Austria to purchase a vignette or toll sticker; the Mauthausen Ljubelj Nazi Extermination Camp in Slovenia; a stop at some place in Italy where I had some really good pizza; and Opatija, which is a town in western Croatia that is located on the Gulf of Kvarner, which is a bay in the northern Adriatic Sea.
The road trip was not without its obstructions and impediments — such as this construction zone in the Alps near the border Austria shares with Slovenia.
Loibltunnel at Loibl Pass — or, in Slovenia, Ljubelj Pass — is 1,566 meters long and crosses the border between Austria and Slovenia. It is approximately 1,367 meters above the level of the Adriatic Sea. Loiblpass Straße is a mountain pass on which both European route E652 and B91; and the road is one of the steepest in the eastern Alps.

I have driven on numerous road trips in North America, Europe, Africa, South America, and Australia and New Zealand. I suppose Asia counts when considering my road trips in Oman and the United Arab Emirates. I enjoyed every one of them, as each road trip had its own character. All of the road trips were unforgettable; and I am always ready to go on the next road trip.
