Redeem or Purchase More Marriott Bonvoy Points to Combine With a Free Night Award
The amount of Marriott Bonvoy points to combine with — and therefore boost — a Free Night Award has increased by 10,000 points from 15,000 points to 25,000 points, which allows for increased flexibility when booking reservations for award redemption stays.
A Free Night Award can be earned through at least three different ways:
- Marriott Bonvoy Credit Cards
- Select Marriott Bonvoy promotions
- Marriott Bonvoy Elite Benefits — such as the Annual Choice Benefit when you reach 75 Elite Night Credits

A Free Night Award is issued through a loyalty program benefit, promotion, or partner program. Each Free Night Award carries a specific points value that can be applied to one night in a standard guest room at a participating hotel or resort property offering a Standard Redemption Award rate or PointSavers Award rate for the requested stay date that is less than or equal to the value of the Free Night Award. Free Night Awards are valid only for use by the member designated on the Free Night Award and are not transferable. More than one Free Night Award can be used for a stay with multiple nights, as well as for multiple rooms where the member is present for the stay and the room is under the name of the member. Free Night Award examples include the Free Night Award option with the 75-Night Annual Choice Benefit and the Free Night Award issued through certain Marriott International co-brand credit cards.
Members who apply the Free Night Award on a night where the value of the Free Night Award is higher than the standard guest room Award Redemption rate or PointSavers Award rate will forfeit the difference in points and not receive a refund of points. When applying a Free Night Award to a night in a reservation, members are able to redeem or purchase up to 25,000 points to expand the value of such Free Night Award.
Free Night Award may be used on or prior to its expiry date listed; it cannot be extended beyond the validity date, exchanged, or re-deposited into the account of the member for points or future use. Free Night Awards may differ in point value and expiration date, depending on how the Free Night Award was earned. An eligible member should check the expiration date of the Free Night Award provided in the account of the member.
Additional restrictions for using Free Night Awards include — but are not limited to — Free Night Awards:
- Can only be applied to a standard room and does not apply to a Premium Room;
- Value cannot be combined with cash or other Award Redemption types;
- Are not eligible for the Stay for 5, Pay for 4 Offer; and
- Cannot be used at Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy and The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.
