Change fees and cancellation fees have been eliminated on Spirit Airlines. No official explanation was offered as to why the airline adopted this policy.
Change Fees and Cancellation Fees Eliminated on Spirit Airlines

- Change Fees Are Gone For All We’re saying goodbye to change fees so you can say yellow to more flexible travel
- Book With Confidence No Change Or Cancellation Fees Because if your plans change, no worries, your ticket can, too!
Spirit Airlines used to charge the following rates for changes to tickets:
- $119.00 within six days prior to departure
- $99.00 between seven days and 30 days prior to departure
- $69.00 between 31 days and 59 days prior to departure
Spirit Airlines is either:
- Following the lead of Frontier Airlines, which also recently eliminated change fees and cancellation fees and added some other benefits for customers
- Attempting to revitalize its brand
- Preparing to comply with a new final rule for transparency in airfares by the Department of Transportation of the United States
- Some or all of the above

Seeing is believing, in my opinion.
I have not flown as a passenger aboard an airplane operated by Spirit Airlines at all — but if the airline intends to deliver on these new benefits for customers, that can potentially prove to be a significant improvement for the airline.
As with Frontier Airlines, one significant issue which has not been addressed is delayed flights…
