Half Elite Night Credits Now Awarded at Four Brands of Marriott Bonvoy

Half is better than nothing, I suppose — but this news is mildly positive.

Half Elite Night Credits are now being awarded at four brands of Marriott Bonvoy, which became effective earlier this month of January of 2026.

Under the old policy, members of the Marriott Bonvoy membership program who stayed at Protea Hotels earned one Elite Night Credit every two nights — which meant that anyone who stayed only one night earned no credit towards elite status; and anyone who stayed an odd amount of nights only earned credit towards elite status for only the even amount of nights that they stayed: for example, stays of seven nights only earned three Elite Night Credits…

…but under the new current policy, stays at the following four brands will earn half of one Elite Night Credit so that every qualifying night earns something towards elite status:

According to Section 4.2a, subsection iii, of the official terms and conditions of the Marriott Bonvoy membership program:

At City Express, Four Points Flex, Protea Hotels, and Series by Marriott, Members will be awarded half of one (0.5) Elite Night Credit for each Qualifying Night stayed.

After a press release from Marriott International, Incorporated on Friday, November 8, 2013 announced the intent of the multinational lodging company to acquire Protea Hotels Group, members of what was then known as Marriott Rewards were able to earn, redeem and enjoy full elite level status benefits at 26 participating Protea Hotel properties, Protea Hotel Fire & Ice!, and African Pride Hotel properties in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban in South Africa effective as of Monday, February 23, 2015 — and the number of participating hotel and resort properties within the Protea portfolio of brands where members were able to earn, redeem and enjoy full elite level status benefits expanded to greater than 100

…but the bubble burst when members of what became the Marriott Bonvoy membership program could only earn one elite qualifying night for every two nights they stayed — which led to the aforementioned disparity, as half of one Elite Night Credit could not be earned — until now.

Earning one half of one Elite Night Credit is actually a bit of good news — as was already explained earlier — to an otherwise chintzy policy of which Marriott Bonvoy has no fewer than five different earning schedules for its hotel and resort properties in terms of earning points and nights…

…and if you stay at Marriott Executive Apartments and were hoping for some good news, forget it: stays at participating properties of this brands still only earn one Elite Night Credit after staying a minimum of three qualifying nights.
